Company History
Co-founders Andrew Wilson and Bertrand Folliet have extensive global media and telecom experience in both the public and private sectors. Andrew Wilson acquired the value-added service provider VISL from Cable & Wireless in 1993, and together with Bertrand Folliet grew revenues from US$5 million to US$140 million by 1999, when the business secured a listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange main board. They subsequently sold their interests and founded the Cellcast Group in 2002 to focus on interactive digital entertainment.
Having recognized that mobile phones are emerging as the important ‘third screen’ used by consumers, Cellcast has pioneered innovative new TV formats and interactive programming to enable audience participation using mobile phones and the Internet. Starting with two hours daily airtime purchased on one channel on the Sky Digital platform in the United Kingdom, the Group now produces over 50 hours of live television per day across 7 channels on the Sky platform – three of which are wholly owned.
With mobile phones fast becoming a general-purpose interaction device in the hands of nearly two billion consumers - who always have their phones with them, the Group now develops and distributes proprietary applications and television programming in the U.K., Europe, the Middle East, India and South-East Asia, and has aggressive expansion plans for markets in the U.S., Latin America and China.
